During this two-day meeting, 2018 Knowles Teaching Fellows will focus on developing their own Content Knowledge needed for Teaching (CKT). They will spend time unpacking the content trajectory of an upcoming unit, discussing how to determine when/where in the unit to place cognitively demanding tasks, and how to identify cognitively demanding tasks as well as modify tasks to increase the cognitive demand. Fellows will also continue exploring how others’ perspectives are similar to or different from their own and how considering these perspectives can challenge and develop CKT.

2019 Knowles Teaching Fellows will explore the disciplinary practices (DP) for their particular content (math or science). Over the year, they will consider how they understand the DPs—their meaning, purpose and connections across disciplines. They will further explore how and what students might learn through engaging in the disciplinary practices, both in general and in their classroom specifically.
