Knowles Experiential Learning Project (KELP)

The Knowles Experiential Learning Project (KELP) was a working group within the Knowles Teacher Initiative. Founded in 2018, KELP was built on the belief that classroom teachers should be the primary authors of engaging curricula. By exposing educators to unique natural phenomena, the project aimed to create inspiring, place-based resources adaptable to a wide range of STEM disciplines and contexts.

Between 2019 and 2022, 43 Knowles Fellows traveled to the Galápagos Islands for an eight-day ecosystem immersion. This collaboration resulted in 16 comprehensive STEM resources. KELP has presented these resources at national conferences, such as NABT and the Knowles Teacher Conferences, and continues to offer all published materials for free online. While no future expeditions are currently scheduled, KELP remains dedicated to sharing these materials with classrooms worldwide.
