Ayanna Perry’s article Plotting your statues: An equity strategy was recently published in MTLM journal. This article invites teachers to plot their status, using a Desmos activity, to support reflection on their classroom practice.

This unit uses the phenomenon of the food industry and the driving question “How does nitrogen fertilizer for blueberry crops impact life on Earth?” As students interrogate the stakeholders and impacts of using food crop fertilizers, they will also learn about stoichiometry and the basics of chemical reactions.

The close study of one’s practice to generate knowledge useful to oneself and others is an important part of developing one’s teacher leadership practice. Building on Understanding Your System Through the Activity System Framework, this 40-minute data protocol is designed for use with others and supports educators in analyzing their systems and identifying leverage points for meaningful change in their contexts.

This monitoring tool helps science educators make student engagement in science practices visible. By distinguishing observable actions from developing behaviors, it supports formative noticing during investigations. Student self-checks promote agency, while teacher notes capture evidence in real time, reinforcing students’ identities as people who do science.
