I wanted a profession that engaged me intellectually, socially, and emotionally. I grew up in a family in which education was always a high priority, and I admired and respected many of my teachers growing up.”

Nina’s Story

Teaching Discipline

Mathematics

Why Mathematics

“Math was my favorite subject in school from a young age, and I went on to major in math and economics in college. I love seeing patterns, finding logic, and solving problems. There is an aesthetic elegance to mathematics that I find beautiful. I like sharing that with students, as well as hearing their different ways of seeing and expressing ideas.”

Professional Experience

Before beginning her teaching career, Nina tutored students in various levels of mathematics, taught SAT Prep, and worked in a special day class for students with moderate to severe disabilities.

After completing her undergraduate studies, Nina worked as a research associate at the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco in the International Economics division, where she collected and analyzed data related to international economic trends.

Nina began teaching at Bayside STEM Academy in San Mateo, California during the 2016–2017 school year.

Nina enjoys being outside, hiking, yoga, meeting new people, learning about other cultures, and spending time with friends and family.
