Student Perceptions Survey

The Knowles Teacher Initiative Student Perceptions Survey is a comprehensive 34-item assessment tool designed to help math and science teachers understand their students’ classroom experiences and self-perceptions as learners. Drawing from three nationally validated surveys (Panorama, TIMSS, and Carnegie Pathways), this instrument measures key factors that predict student performance, including classroom belonging, confidence in math/science, growth mindset, student agency, and how much students value the subject.
Teachers can use this survey to identify classroom strengths and areas for improvement from their students’ perspectives. The data helps educators recognize students who may need additional support and provides insights into classroom culture and learning environment effectiveness. Teachers can administer the full survey or selected portions individually, with their department, grade-level teams, or professional learning communities to set targeted improvement goals. For example, results might reveal needs for increased relevance, enhanced student voice opportunities, or improved feedback practices. The survey serves as a valuable diagnostic tool for creating more engaging, supportive learning environments that boost student achievement and motivation.
